Happy Yorkshire (Chocolate) Day!
For the next week we are celebrating Yorkshire, the UK's biggest and best county!
Yorkshire Day has been celebrated on 1st August since 1975. The idea of Yorkshire Day is to celebrate everything Yorkshire and to remind us of what is great about this wonderful part of the world. We are very proud our chocolate wonderland is in Yorkshire, it just wouldn't be the same anywhere else!
Although Yorkshire is the UK's biggest county, I think it is the most homely! I grew up by the sea in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. I also come from a family of Yorkshire business people, who have been trading for centuries in 'God's Own Country' (which makes me even more passionate about all things Yorkshire).
Although cocoa isn't local to Yorkshire, we try to use local companies where we can for everything else. For example Keylink in Sheffield & Shepcote in Driffield (the capital of the Wolds) for our ingredients. They are brilliant companies. My dad also uses them both and my great grandfather also used Shepcote for his businesses.
Yorkshire Day happens once a year but we celebrate Yorkshire all year round by selling our handmade chocolate Yorkshire Roses. Each one sold helps to support a local charity. We are supporting Golddigger Trust this year, a Sheffield based charity. They work with young people across Yorkshire to help equip them with the confidence and skills to make positive choices for themselves.
There are so many ways you could celebrate Yorkshire - Yorkshire puddings for tea, a lovely walk in the moors, a visit to the beautiful Yorkshire coast, .. or by eating Yorkshire made chocolate!
